American Suic-Idol

Just what in the hell is going on with the American public these days?
Millions of you (yes, YOU!) watching this atrocity they call, "entertainment".

I agree with Rosie.
Why do we think it's comical to watch these "millionaires" mock the looks and mentality of these people who so look up to them?

It's a disgrace.
In the case of the mentally challenged entrants, they may not fully comprehend the situation and the mockery they are being made into. Sadly, I imagine their parents and siblings do.
I don't care how they choose to thinly veil it, it is what it is.
They are being selfish, naive, and are behaving as snotty little children.
Their star will fall. And it will come crashing down with a shatter so loud that it will be heard over Paula Abdul's drunken laughter, Simon's ego boasting and Randy Jackson's growling stomach.

Cranky Grammy

I was thinking the same last night.
They do make fun of peoples looks and be little them.
But I must say, sometimes I feel that some come knowing they can't sing and just come for the fun and to provoke a reaction.

I would suggest you look at the article written by the Special Olympics Committe commending, not condeming American Idol. At least they are allowing special needs people to have the same opportunities as everyone else. They are not treating them any differently than any other person who walks in. If you talk to a special needs person, they'll tell you that's what they want. To be treated like a normal person.

"It is sooooo Hyped television people the producers do what is entertaining they make rude comments but remember half of this is edited and half the people they make fun of are told tobe dramatic and really go all out, above all they are making a television program, to entertain, Rosie is an idiot if she honestly thinks they are crushing these kids, everyone who appears on the show signs consent forms and releases, they are aware of the "critizism" that can and more than likely will occur and I promise u half of these people are just happy to have their 15 mins of fame!"

That is the single longest sentence I have ever read.

It seems to be symptomatic of the rage of schadenfreude in the human psyche, the enjoyment of the suffering of others. Where the entertainment industry is concerned, there is nothing "real" in reality television, and if there was, it would be edited as tongue in cheek to avoid provoking outrage.

Do you ever wonder if maybe nothing every really changes, or that maybe society as whole really is going down the toilet faster than ever?

oh GROW UP people.
When you go on a job interview on Wall Street, you have SECONDS to prove yourself, they judge you the moment you walk in the door.
When an actor auditions for a role on Broadway, if they don't exactly fit the requirements of the role, they are dismissed on the slightest details.
Telling people WHY they are not selected for a job is doing them a favor. Sparing their feelings doesn't help them to grow or learn or improve.
Simon Cowell more often than not says EXACTLY what millions of viewers are thinking, but don't have the courage to say.
Being an IDOL, or POP star, is partly based on appeal, likability, and frankly... sexual attraction, NOT JUST A GOOD SINGING VOICE. IT IS WHAT IT IS.
